Sizzling Sesame Steak Stir Fry

DIFFICULTY: Nice & Simple
  10 mins Cooking Time

Ingredients (Serves: 2-3)

  • 400g steak (sirloin or ribeye thinly sliced against the grain)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 teaspoon cornflour
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil (for marinating the steak)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for stir-frying)
  • 1 onion (sliced)
  • 1 red pepper (sliced)
  • 1 yellow pepper (sliced)
  • 1 carrot (thinly sliced)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1-inch ginger (grated)
  • 100g tender stem broccoli (or regular broccoli, cut into florets)
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar (optional, for a tangy kick)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (for garnish)
  • Fresh coriander or spring onions (for garnish)
  • Cooked rice or noodles (for serving)

Method

1. In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, cornflour, and sesame oil. Add the thinly sliced steak and toss to coat. Let it marinate for at least 10-15 minutes (longer if you have time).

2. While the steak marinates, prep the vegetables by slicing the onion, peppers, carrot, and broccoli. Set them aside.

3. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large wok or frying pan over high heat. Once the pan is very hot, add the marinated steak in a single layer. Stir fry for 2-3 minutes until browned but still a little pink inside. Remove the steak from the pan and set aside.

4. In the same pan, add another tablespoon of vegetable oil.

5. Add the onion, peppers, carrot, and tender stem broccoli. Stir fry for 3-4 minutes until the vegetables are crisp-tender.

6. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger and stir fry for another 30 seconds until fragrant.

7. Return the steak to the pan along with any juices. Add 2 tablespoons of water to help steam and deglaze the pan. If using, add the rice vinegar for a tangy twist. Toss everything together and cook for another 1-2 minutes to combine the flavours and heat through.

8. Garnish the stir fry with sesame seeds and fresh coriander or sliced spring onions. Serve immediately over steamed rice or noodles for a satisfying meal.
