Hinchliffe's Charity Open Day
Thousands of people enjoyed a day out at Hinchliffes on Saturday 28th May.
Crowds gathered in unprecedented numbers at our award-winning Farm Shop and Restaurant to witness how we as a business have been getting back onto out feet after last year's devastating fire.
The shop and restaurant were packed all day long as customers came to buy and taste the produce from our farms and from local suppliers. There was also an outdoor bar and barbeque, plus a new offer in the farm shop – an ice cream counter serving Yummy Yorkshire's renowned ice creams by the cone. The counter has a permanent home in the farm shop now where customers can buy by the tub or cone.
Families and customers old and new were invited free of charge to help raise money for 2 charities – “The Forget Me Not Trust” children's hospice and The Bowel Cancer Charity.
Attractions included face painting, a bucking bronco, bouncy castle, climbing wall craft stalls and shire horse and cart rides. We are running a raffle over the summer up until the end of August to continue raising money for the chosen charities.
The Shire Horses were a massive hit with the crowds and will be making Hinchliffes their new home when 4 of them come to live here by the end of June. Diners will be able to see them from the restaurant in the new stable block we had built especially for our new guests.
The farm's two Kune Kune pigs, ducklings, goats, rheas and wallabies were also stars for the day and the alpacas made a welcome return to the farm, the first time since the fire of last year.
Overall it was such a resounding success that there will be an Open Day held every year from now on.
